Order: “Remain faithful to what you have learned and believe.” (2 Tim 3:14a)
Reflection
Our Community Word for October states: Unwavering faith brings disciples into deeper communion with Jesus. A steadfast faith defines the life of a true disciple of Christ. It anchors us through trials and uncertainties. Faith is alive; it grows as we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, for "faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ" (Rom 10:17). The more we listen to His Word, the more our hearts are shaped in His truth.
Faith also draws its strength from prayer. Through prayer, we deepen our relationship with God, receive His peace, and align our will with His. Persistent prayer strengthens us not only for our own needs, but also gives us grace to remain obedient and humble in God’s service.
The power of faith is not found in extraordinary deeds, but in simple, daily acts of obedience: serving quietly, loving unconditionally, and trusting even without full understanding. God is pleased with the humble heart that depends on Him. True discipleship means surrendering to God’s will. In unwavering faith, we find strength; through humility, we gain grace; and in obedience, we bear fruit. St. Paul exhorts us: “Remain faithful to what you have learned and have believed” (2 Tim 3:14a).
The Sunday readings in October give us scriptural guidance on how to live and strengthen our faith as true disciples of Christ.
For the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the theme is – Unwavering faith is lived through our humble service and obedience. True faith is not about doing great things, but about steady, consistent obedience to God. Jesus reminds us that even faith as small as a mustard seed holds power when rooted in humility. True disciples serve not for recognition, but as a grateful response to God’s grace. Faith is shown in daily acts of care, prayer, and perseverance. Even when unnoticed, it remains firm, anchored in love and trust. Scripture assures us: “…the just one, because of his faith, shall live” (Hb 2:4). Faithful service is the fruit of a heart fully surrendered to God.
For the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the theme is – Unwavering faith leads us to respond with heartfelt gratitude for God’s mercy. When God shows His healing and saving power, faith must lead to thanksgiving. In the Gospel, ten lepers were healed, but only one returned to give thanks. His faith was not only in the miracle, but in the mercy of the One who healed him. Jesus affirmed him: “Your faith has saved you” (Lk 17:19). Gratitude marks the heart that truly recognizes God’s love. Each time we pause to thank the Lord, our faith deepens and honors Him. As the Psalm proclaims: “The Lord has made his salvation known: in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice” (Ps 98:2). Let us be among the grateful, living witnesses of His mercy.
For the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the theme is – Unwavering faith inspires us to persevere in prayer and trust in God's justice. Faith that is steadfast does not give up, even when answers are delayed. Jesus urges us to pray without ceasing, trusting that God hears the cries of His people. Like the persistent widow, we are called to persevere, relying not on outcomes, but on God’s justice and goodness. Prayer does not change God, but aligns us with His will. In His time, He acts with mercy and fairness. The Lord assures us: “…the ones who call out to him day and night…will see…that justice is done…” (Lk 18:7-8). With confidence, we pray and trust, remembering: “The Lord will guard your coming and your going, both now and forever” (Ps 121:8).
Finally, for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time, the theme is – Unwavering faith keeps our hearts humble and repentant. Faith grows in a heart that humbly admits its need for God. In the parable, the tax collector’s simple and sincere prayer was accepted, while the Pharisee’s proud boasting was rejected. God looks not at outward displays, but at the honesty of our hearts. Faith thrives when we trust in His grace, not our own righteousness. Scripture assures us: “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted…” (Ps 34:19). Jesus also promises: “…the one who humbles himself will be exalted” (Lk 18:14b). Humility opens the door to God's mercy and transforming love.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, deepen in us an unwavering faith that stays firm in every season of life. May our trust in You grow as we listen to Your Word, persevere in prayer, and serve with humility and love. Teach us to obey without seeking praise, to pray with persistence, and to give thanks in all things. When we feel unseen or discouraged, remind us that You are at work. Let our lives be true witnesses of Your mercy, justice, and faithfulness. Keep us always anchored in Your truth and grace. Amen.
